Uruguayan Joaquín Cafaro has been confirmed as the first driver for Uruguay Racing Team for the full TCR South America season. It will be the first time Cafaro competes in an entire championship aboard a Peugeot 308 GTI TCR, a car recently acquired by the team.

“Very happy to confirm that this year I will compete in TCR South America, together with the Uruguay Racing Team. We have been working on this project for many months and, finally, once and for all, its launch arrives with this confirmation. Very happy to be representing, in a way, Uruguay in a South American championship and enjoying this category that last year I was able to compete in the two rounds held in Uruguay. The truth is that it makes me really happy to be here,” said Cafaro.
Born in November 2005 in Ombúes de Lavalle, Colonia, Cafaro quickly stood out in Uruguayan motorsport. In 2023, the driver was named the great revelation after winning the Super Turismo championship, the main category of the Asociación Uruguaya de Volantes, competing with an Audi A1.

Shortly after, he began his career in Argentine motorsport, joining the TN APAT (formerly Turismo Nacional), Class 2. In his debut season, Cafaro achieved three podiums and finished among the top five, being recognized as the best rookie of the year, even while racing on several unknown circuits.
Despite having already participated in some international races, 2026 will mark the official start of his career abroad, when he joins other young drivers in the TCR concept. His first experience behind the wheel of the Peugeot 308 GTI TCR will be in the pre-season tests that the category will hold in the coming weeks.
