The Santa Catarina driver Erick Schotten had a standout Saturday (20) at the Autódromo Internacional do Mato Grosso, in Cuiabá (MT), finishing the stage with an unprecedented victory in the TCR South America and in the TCR Brazil.

In the first race, after starting 20th due to an engine change, Schotten climbed the field and finished 13th. In the second, he started in front with the Cupra León VZ #7, dominated from start to finish, and achieved his first victory in the TCR concept, winning in the South American, Brazilian, and Junior Trophy categories.

“I knew there would be a different kind of pressure, but when I sat in the car I felt competitive and fast, so I knew it was about focusing and doing my part. It was a tough race, but I stayed calm the whole time. It was emotional to hear the National Anthem at the top of the podium. I almost cried. It was something unprecedented for me racing in an international category,” said the driver, who also races in Stock Light.

After the victory, he added: “Today means a lot. Doing two categories works. It works very well. Training and working is very worthwhile. I can go home knowing that the work has been rewarded. I am very grateful for everything that is happening, for all the effort, and for finishing the day today winning. The feeling is that we are on the right track, and that is how I want to continue. I came to TCR to stay, to build a career, so this is an achievement that means a lot.”

The next commitment will be between July 24 and 26 at the Autódromo Velocitta, in Mogi Guaçu (SP), in the decisive stage of the TCR Brazil season. After that, the TCR South America continues with races in Argentina and Uruguay.
