When the Sprint Challenge went to the timed session, the rain had stopped, but in the final minutes, it started raining heavily again. But Gerson managed to secure a flying lap at just the right moment to start at the front of the grid.

“I was improving my laps a bit and exactly when I went up to pass on the straight and try to do one more fast lap, the famous Interlagos downpour fell. I already saw that it was not even worth risking that braking because the time was not going to improve at all, it was cool, very good, we are on pole,” he said to the Porsche Cup broadcast.
Commenting on the car, he said that “it is very safe, the tires are very good, so what we need to avoid is the famous aquaplaning that can betray us on the straight. But in braking, in corners, on corner exit, the car does not scare you, it does not oversteer, if you do everything right it behaves practically like on a dry track because of how much grip it has.”
