F3 had a scare during the Sprint race in Monaco this Saturday. Brad Benevides confirmed that he suffered fractures in three vertebrae after an accident that occurred on the first lap of the race held on the streets of the Principality.

The incident happened shortly after the start, when the AIX Racing driver touched another car and was launched into the air. After landing hard on all four wheels, Benevides was then hit by Christian Ho’s car from Rodin Motorsport, being pushed against the protective barriers.
After the accident, the driver was taken to a hospital for medical examinations. Later, Benevides used social media to update his health status and revealed the severity of the injuries suffered.

In a post on Instagram Stories, the competitor showed a photo already in the hospital bed and reported that he suffered three vertebral fractures. “Three broken vertebrae in such a small accident, fate willed it so,” the driver wrote.
The accident marked one of the most worrying moments of the Formula 3 round in Monaco. The Sprint race ended with Gerrard Xie, from DAMS, declared the winner after the disqualification of Hiyu Yamakoshi, from Van Amersfoort Racing, for a technical infraction found hours after the checkered flag.
