Alexander Dunne was the fastest driver in the only free practice session for the third round of the 2026 Formula 2 season, held this Friday (22) at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada. The Rodin Motorsport driver recorded his best lap time of 1min22s524 in his 25 laps during the session, not being surpassed by rivals.

The second position went to Martinius Stenshorne, who was 0.012 seconds slower than Dunne, his teammate. Championship leader Nikola Tsolov, with Campos Racing, was third, followed by Nico Varrone, fourth with Van Amersfoort. The top five group also included Dino Beganovic from DAMS.
Noel León, with a Campos Racing car, finished sixth in the practice, ahead of Laurens van Hoepen, seventh with Trident. Joshua Durksen, with Invicta, was eighth, with Colton Herta, Hitech driver, finishing the session in ninth. The list of the ten fastest also included Cian Shields, with an AIX Racing car.
The Brazilian drivers showed good performances but were outside the top 10. Emmo Fittipaldi completed the activity in Canada in 13th place with an AIX Racing car. Rafael Câmara, Invicta Racing driver, gradually advanced in the classification but was hindered by a yellow flag at the end, finishing with the 14th best time.

The session had no red flags but included incidents. Kush Maini missed the braking point at one of the corners and disrupted Nico Varrone. With 17 minutes of activity, Sebastian Montoya spun with the Prema car but returned to the track without problems. Dino Beganovic, in turn, went straight on at one of the corners.
With nine minutes remaining in the session, Mexican Rafael Villagómez spun at the last corner after spinning and hitting the “wall of champions.” The Van Amersfoort driver managed to leave the spot and take the car to the pits without the red flag being triggered, although debris from his car remained on the track. In the final minute, Herta, Hitech driver, spun.
From 3 p.m., qualifying will take place to determine the starting positions for the two races of the weekend. The Sprint is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. on Saturday, while the main race starts at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday.
