The engineer, currently responsible for Max Verstappen’s race engineering, will only leave the team at the end of the 2027 Formula 1 season, but his transfer has already been confirmed. The move is seen as significant, especially given the central role he plays in the team.
Laurent Mekies, head of Red Bull Racing, highlighted that the team faces the situation with naturalness and respect: “We have ‘GP’ with us for the next two years, so we don’t feel like he has already left. We still have victories and battles to win together,” he stated.

The director also acknowledged the weight of the opportunity accepted by Lambiase: “He had an extraordinary opportunity. We respect the fact that this happens once in a lifetime. We had been talking about this for quite some time and can only wish him the best,” he added.
Mekies also reinforced confidence in the engineer’s commitment until the end of his contract with Red Bull: “He is a fantastic professional and we know he will give his best,” concluded the Red Bull boss. Lambiase, who has been with the team since 2015, will take on a leadership role at McLaren starting in 2028.
