George Russell took pole position for the 2026 Canadian GP after beating Kimi Antonelli in the final seconds of Q3 and securing a Mercedes one-two in Montreal. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri put both McLarens on the second row, while Lewis Hamilton finished fifth after making a mistake on his last attempt. The qualifying was marked by the balance between Mercedes, McLaren, and Red Bull, as well as Ferrari’s difficulties, with Charles Leclerc complaining a lot about the car and finishing only eighth. Gabriel Bortoleto advanced to Q2 after escaping elimination at the end of Q1, appeared among the leaders at the start of the second phase, but ended up eliminated in 13th.
