Gresini, Ducati’s satellite team in MotoGP, revealed this Thursday (21) through social media that Álex Márquez will miss the next two rounds of the championship, the Italian GP in Mugello and the Hungarian GP in Balaton Park. The Spaniard is recovering from fractures to the vertebra and clavicle suffered after the accident during the Catalan GP last Sunday at the Barcelona Circuit.

At the time, Márquez was battling for the lead of the race with Pedro Acosta, when the KTM of the then first-placed rider suddenly lost performance. The Gresini rider could not avoid the contact and crashed into the wall on the straight leading to turn 10 of the circuit, in an incident that destroyed the bike and caused a red flag. After being taken by ambulance to the hospital, Álex was diagnosed with fractures to the C7 vertebra and the right clavicle.
The rider underwent surgery on Sunday, when a plate was placed to stabilize the clavicle. With Gresini’s announcement this morning, the expectation is that Álex Márquez will return to the track only at the Czech GP, scheduled for June 21 at the Brno circuit. The race will mark the ninth round of the 2026 season of the premier class of the Motorcycle World Championship.

The next MotoGP round is scheduled for May 31, with the Italian GP taking place at the Mugello circuit.
