Manuel González won in the early hours of this Sunday (1) the Thailand GP, the race that opened the 2026 Moto2 season, the intermediate class of the World Championship. In a highly eventful race, the Spanish Intact GP rider took advantage of the final part of the contest to overtake Izan Guevara with four laps remaining and came away with the victory at the Buriram circuit.

Guevara, on a Pramac bike, finished the race in second, just 0s099 behind the winner. Daniel Holgado completed the podium by finishing in third place with an Aspar bike, while Ivan Ortolá, from MSI, was fourth in the opening round of the championship. The top five group also included Colin Veijer, an Ajo rider.
Celestino Vietti, with a bike prepared by SpeedRS, closed the contest in sixth place, finishing just ahead of Alonso López, seventh with Gresini equipment. David Muñoz, from Italtrans, crossed the finish line in ninth, with Deniz Öncü, from Marc VDS, in ninth. The list of the top ten was completed by Ayumu Sasaki, from RW Racing.
The race featured two heavy accidents that caused the contest to be interrupted. On the third lap, an accident involving Filip Salac and David Alonso caused the red flag to be triggered, with the Colombian being hit by the Czech rider and taken to the hospital. The race was resumed after 15 minutes.

Later, Sergio García and Luca Lunetta had an accident in the second sector of the track and, after a few moments, the red flag was triggered for the second time in the race.
Moto2 will have the second round of the 2026 season on March 20, 21, and 22, with the Brazil GP, a race scheduled for the Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna, in Goiânia (GO).
