Jos Verstappen is not very happy following the 2026 Formula 1 season. The father of four-time champion Max revealed that he has been turning off the TV during races this championship.

This year’s regulations and the changes to the engines, 50% electric and 50% internal combustion, have divided opinions among both drivers and viewers. The Dutchman from Red Bull has been one of the most critical and even threatens to leave the category at the end of the season.
During the April break, the FIA and teams met for discussions and specific changes were already presented for the Miami GP, but Jos joined his son in criticizing the new Formula 1 regulations.
“It’s crazy to say that GT3 is a better race than Formula 1. It used to be the other way around. All those GT3 drivers were desperate to experience what Formula 1 is like, but nowadays that’s hard to achieve. As a driver, I also find [2026 F1] less fun. From time to time I’m watching and I turn off the TV because I lose interest,” he told RaceXpress.

“It’s not the Formula 1 that Formula 1 represents. The driver has to rely too much on the car and can no longer make a difference as a driver.” I think that’s a shame in Formula 1. You see, you need to brake late, but you also can’t brake too late. However, in fast corners, you really need to be able to make a difference, like in the first sector in Japan,” he continued.
“You simply can’t do that with this car and certainly not with that battery that needs to be constantly recharged,” he concluded.
