Max Verstappen was the first retirement from the Formula 1 Monaco GP. This Sunday (7), at the start in Monte Carlo, the driver remained stopped on the grid and at the end of the first lap, went to the pits.

In Saturday’s qualifying, the four-time champion was surprised by Red Bull’s good performance. After all, he managed to qualify on the front row, starting from second place.
But then, luck seems to have changed for the Dutchman from the Austrian team. The lights went out in Monaco and despite having made the ‘jump’, Verstappen’s RB22 simply remained stopped on the grid, only accelerating after all the other drivers had already left.

Mid-lap, the Red Bull competitor asked on the radio what he should do. In response, he heard ‘bring it home [to the pits], Max’. With that, he had his second retirement of the 2026 season – the first came in China with a leak.
In fact, this championship is the four-time champion’s first with more than one retirement since 2021.
