A Aston Martin confirmed that Fernando Alonso‘s retirement from the Canadian GP this Sunday (24) happened for an unusual reason: a problem with the driver’s seat. The incident marked another chapter of a complicated weekend for the Silverstone team at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

The problems started even before the main race. During the sprint qualifying, Alonso had an accident, while his teammate, Lance Stroll, faced technical difficulties on the grid. The Canadian had to start from the pits after a suspension problem with his AMR26 was detected when the car was already positioned for the start.
Additionally, Aston Martin received a €5,000 fine for an unsafe release involving Alonso. They were also penalized with another €7,500 after Stroll left the garage with the car in a condition considered unsafe by the stewards.

In an attempt to minimize the damage for the race, the team chose to change power unit components and modify Stroll’s car setup under parc fermé conditions. As a result, the driver started from the pits at the Canadian GP.
The weekend ended without major results for Aston Martin, who remain without points this season.
