Lewis Hamilton achieved his best result since joining Ferrari at the Canadian GP, held this Sunday (24). The seven-time world champion ended the day at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve optimistic about the progress of the Italian team after finishing in second place. He emphasized that the team needs to keep working to reduce the gap to Mercedes:

“It is definitely encouraging, given that this weekend, if you look at Mercedes, they brought a big upgrade,” Hamilton said. “Many teams brought upgrades here. We brought ours in Miami and the team is working very hard at the factory. We hope to have more news along the way.”
Hamilton started from fifth position and gained two places right at the start after McLaren had to call Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri to the pits due to choosing intermediate tires in unsuitable conditions. After that, he spent most of the race chasing Max Verstappen’s Red Bull until he managed the decisive overtake in the final laps to take second place.
The driver celebrated the result and highlighted the relationship built with Ferrari since his arrival at the team. “These guys welcomed me with open arms and it has been quite tough in the last year or so,” he said. “So finally finding our sweet spot and having a good weekend has been an incredible feeling to be back here, especially with these guys being so fast and being able to have a race with Max, which was great.”

Hamilton also stated that the performance in Montreal boosts his confidence for the upcoming races. “Considering this is a real street circuit, with long straights, and we managed to hold on and get this result, it definitely gives me great hopes for what’s to come. But we have to keep pushing and trying to extract more.”
The Briton is fourth in the Formula 1 drivers’ championship, with 72 points, just 3 behind Charles Leclerc, his teammate at the Maranello team.
