George Russell barely had words to say after retiring from the Formula 1 Canadian GP while leading this Sunday (24). However, he still highlighted how he enjoyed the battle against his teammate Kimi Antonelli.

The Mercedes duo kept constantly swapping positions during the first 30 laps of the race in Montreal. It happened that when he was in first, the Brit had a problem with his car and had to retire, with the Italian winning and increasing his lead at the top to 43 points.
After the race, Russell admitted he was speechless because of the stroke of bad luck. “Suddenly, everything shut down. I entered the corner, the engine stopped, no electronics, no proper braking. I’m a bit speechless, to be honest,” he told Sky Sports.

“To be honest, I’m proud of my weekend. Pole in the sprint, I won the sprint, pole in qualifying. I was leading when I stopped, had a lot of fun battling with Kimi. From my side, I don’t feel there was anything more I could have done this weekend. So, I’m leaving satisfied. Of course, I’m very frustrated with what happened. But, yeah, what else could I do?” he continued.
The day before, Russell and Antonelli also staged an exciting battle in the Sprint, this time with George coming out as the winner. “I thought it was great, loved it, to be honest, I really enjoyed it. I felt like in the karting days, you know? There was no contact, it was hard, close. Yeah, I loved it. That’s what motorsport is about. I would have loved to continue for another 30 laps.”
