Despite facing problems in his 2026 Formula 1 campaign, George Russell has performed better than Kimi Antonelli in a certain area of Mercedes.

The Briton has a better average finishing position in GPs than the championship leader – despite the Italian having won six of 11 races, as well as having a second and two third places in his record this year.
On the other hand, Russell has only two wins, three seconds, two fourths, one seventh and one 12th place in the nine races he finished. Even so, he maintains a better average than his teammate: Antonelli has an average position of 4.09, while George holds 3.8.
The reason is supported by the technical problems and accidents suffered by the pair.
When it comes to Russell, two retirements this season: Canada and Belgium. This means he was not formally classified in the results and was marked as ‘did not finish’.

For Antonelli, the technical problem in Barcelona came after 90% of the race had been completed, meaning he finished 16th. At the British GP, he crossed the finish line in 15th after a penalty for track limits.
Therefore, calculating the duo’s average finishing positions, Kimi’s total includes the races in Barcelona and Silverstone, while for George, the retirements were not counted.
