Pirelli has confirmed the choice of compounds for the upcoming rounds of Formula 1 in 2026. The Italian supplier decided to bring the softest range of tires to the Miami and Canadian GPs, which mark the resumption of the championship after a five-week break.

This decision involves the C3, C4, and C5 compounds, which will be available for both race weekends. The choice indicates a strategy focused on greater grip and potential for strategic variation, especially on circuits with specific characteristics.
Formula 1 is currently experiencing a prolonged break following the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian GPs due to the war in the Middle East, with the championship returning in early May in Miami. For the round held at the Miami International Autodrome, Pirelli highlighted that the track’s very smooth asphalt directly influences tire behavior, with degradation being predominantly thermal due to the high temperatures in Florida.
Two weeks later, the championship moves to the Canadian GP in Montreal, where the tire supplier will once again use the softest compounds. According to Pirelli, the choice was motivated by the characteristics of the Canadian track, which does not have a very abrasive surface and requires good grip, especially in heavy deceleration zones.

Pirelli also recalled that last year, the range of compounds included the C6, used specifically in Canada. However, this compound was withdrawn at the end of last season, reducing the available range for 2026 once again.
At the start of the current season, Pirelli had already adopted a similar strategy by bringing the softest tires to the opening round in Australia. Subsequently, the company opted for more conservative compounds in the following races, before now returning to the more aggressive choice for the upcoming rounds.
With the definitions confirmed, teams will have to work on strategies that consider higher degradation and a possible increase in pit stops. Pirelli’s choice could contribute to more action-packed races, both in Miami and Montreal, especially in high-temperature conditions and heavy braking.
