According to Piastri, the decision was not motivated by a specific episode, but by a natural process of evolution. “I think now some of these questions come much more naturally to me,” he stated. “It’s just a natural evolution, really.”
With more experience, the Australian has begun to handle technical and strategic decisions independently. “I’m gaining more experience in my own career, and there’s also an element that I have more experience now, so I can make some of those decisions, ask some of those questions on my own,” he told Fox Sports.

In this context, Pedro Matos has gained more prominence in the pits. He had already worked with Piastri during the Formula 2 title in 2021 and now takes on expanded roles.
The relationship between Piastri and Webber, started in 2019, remains solid. The driver highlighted the importance of the former F1 driver’s guidance, especially at the beginning of his career. “Especially in the first two years, or especially in year one of F1, there were many questions that hadn’t even crossed my mind and that Mark was asking as if they were obvious to me and the team,” he said.
