Gianpiero Lambiase, Max Verstappen’s race engineer, is leaving Red Bull. This Thursday (9), reports from the Dutch press bring the bombshell that the official will join McLaren starting from the 2028 season, leaving the Austrian team at the end of 2027.

Lambiase has always been an ‘object’ of interest throughout the paddock and recently, rumors have linked him to Williams and Aston Martin. However, he chose to stay at Red Bull not only to continue working with the four-time champion but also to play a more comprehensive role on track as head of racing.
Now, according to information from the Dutch publication De Limburger, Gianpiero, or GP, as he is also known, has accepted an ‘astronomical offer’ to join McLaren starting from the 2028 season.
Also according to the media, Lambiase received a huge salary increase from the current champions, who secured both the Constructors’ and Drivers’ titles in 2025.

Not only that, there is the possibility that one day, Lambiase will take command of McLaren as team principal, as the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf wrote.
With the move, the engineer becomes another key figure to leave Red Bull to sign with the British team, following in the footsteps of names like Rob Marshall, chief designer, and Will Courtenay, head of strategy.
