Sergio Perez believes he still has about three years ahead in Formula 1, and wants to use this period to help Cadillac advance in its project in the category. The Mexican stated that building the team is today one of the main reasons to stay motivated.

After leaving Red Bull Racing at the end of 2024, Perez spent a season out of the category before being hired by Cadillac for its debut in F1 this year. Alongside Valtteri Bottas, the driver forms an experienced duo chosen to also contribute to the development of the new team.
In an interview with the Beyond the Grid podcast, Perez explained that his relationship with Cadillac goes beyond the work of a conventional driver: “I really feel this is a project. I really feel I am part of this new era project, building something from scratch,” he said.
The Mexican also highlighted that he has a say in decisions related to the car’s development and that this experience is something rare for a driver: “Here, I feel I am much more than a driver. At the same time, they listen to me a lot on different things, in development and so on. Few drivers can have this in their careers, and this is the first time I can experience this,” he added.

When talking about when he intends to end his F1 career, Perez said he does not consider age a determining factor. For him, the main sign will be the loss of the desire to remain fully focused on the work, something he currently does not feel because of the motivation provided by the Cadillac project.
“It’s hard to say a number. Obviously, I don’t have much of that ahead. Maybe three more years. I want to see this project moving forward. I think that requires a little more time,” Perez concluded.
