The current F1 champion is 96 points behind the Italian from Mercedes, despite having achieved consecutive wins in Hungary and the Netherlands – this difference was 63 points, but Kimi put on a stellar performance in Monza to start 19th and secure the victory.


So, at the start of the Madrid weekend, Norris was honest about where he sees himself in the battle. “[Russell] is 30 points ahead of me; so, I think George is still the one with the best chance to challenge Kimi,” he said.

“We have two consecutive wins, so the car is good in some places,” he said. “It’s just that, as I said, it’s not as good as it needs to be everywhere. And the only person who has a car equal to Kimi’s is George. That’s why I wish George good luck in trying to compete with Kimi,” he concluded.
