Laurente Mekies commented on Gianpiero Lambiase’s departure from Red Bull at the end of the 2027 Formula 1 season. The Austrian team’s executive acknowledged that it will be a loss, but made a point of highlighting the other talents.

Affectionately known as GP, Max Verstappen’s race engineer will start working at McLaren in 2028. He will take on a role where he will report directly to Andrea Stella, the head of the Woking team.
Therefore, Mekies knows that Lambiase’s farewell is something Red Bull will feel in Formula 1, but he made a point of mentioning other great names that the Austrian team keeps internally.
“In terms of replacing GP, we have a few years to think about that. But, jokes aside… Look, we are quite proud. As much as I have said it several times, we do not want to be defensive about the fact that we have lost some talents; it is a fact, and it has been three or four years,” he said.

“And, as a result, the team’s top priority is to ensure that we create the necessary environment to retain, develop and attract the best talents to the pit lane,” he added.
“We believe we already have the best talents, department by department, and that starts with Ben [Hodgkinson] in the power unit area with his team, and with Pierre [Wache] in the chassis area and his team. And below them, we believe we have the best talents, department by department,” he concluded.
