Helmut Marko commented on Gianpiero Lambiase’s departure from Red Bull in Formula 1. Despite acknowledging it as a great loss for Max Verstappen, he pointed out how the Austrian team should feel the impact less by absorbing internal talent.

The four-time champion’s race engineer is moving to McLaren starting from the 2028 season. Until then, he continues to perform the same role alongside the Dutchman and within the Milton Keynes team.
“I no longer remember all the details, but it is certainly a great loss. But that is part of Formula 1,” said the Austrian who left Red Bull at the end of the 2025 season.

According to the former executive, the team is large enough to choose an internal name to fill the role. “The team is very large and we have several young and very good engineers. We will certainly find a replacement, someone with some experience in a similar role – whoever that may be,” he said.
There is still no obvious name for Lambiase’s successor at Red Bull, with Marko himself confirming that there is no clarity on this.
