Charles Leclerc has already identified a major point where Ferrari can improve this Formula 1 season. After the first races of the year, the Monegasque sees the engine as a major area for development for the campaign.

At the Japanese GP, the competitor achieved his second podium of the year by finishing third. Furthermore, this was the Maranello team’s third consecutive podium in 2026, with Lewis Hamilton finishing in the top-3 in China.
Taking stock after the first three races of the calendar, then, Leclerc pointed out how it would be essential to improve the engine before Miami. “Well, looking at the first three races, it’s clear that we need to improve in a specific area, and that area is certainly the power unit. But obviously, we can’t bring anything to Miami,” he said.

“But it’s not just that, and in a year like this, everything is very new. I think the pace of improvement for each team is huge, so there’s much more than just the power unit. There’s the issue of getting the tires into the ideal range, there’s the aerodynamics, there’s the chassis, and we’re going to work hard on that to try to close the gap to Mercedes as much as possible and, hopefully, maintain the advantage over McLaren, and then we’ll see,” he continued.
“But yes, I think the power unit is perhaps our main weakness at the moment, but there are many other things that can definitely influence and help us close the gap in the meantime,” he concluded.
