Romain Grosjean had to issue a public statement apologizing for comments made about Zak Brown regarding Oscar Piastri during the Formula 1 Spanish GP.

At the event in Madring, the former F1 driver was a commentator for the French channel Canal+. In the Sunday broadcast, the competitor referred to a statement by the McLaren CEO to F1TV after qualifying, saying he was speechless about the ‘attacks’ on Piastri’s performance, saying the Brit considered Lando Norris a better driver.
The interview in question featured Brown alongside presenter Laura Winter, Grosjean himself, as well as Juan Pablo Montoya and Jolyon Palmer. When asked about the 2025 champion’s pole, the executive said, “the entire lap was incredible, and Lando is getting better and better. When you see a lap like that being done, you just think: ‘he is a world champion.’”
When the subject was Piastri, Zak said, “Oscar was very close to him throughout the weekend, but simply couldn’t get that extra lap. We will analyze that. He will examine the data and will probably do the same as all of us: think ‘wow, what a lap.’”
Therefore, after the race in Spain, Grosjean used social media to say he misunderstood Brown’s words and apologized. “Today, I made a comment on Canal+ about Zak Brown’s statements regarding Oscar Piastri, made during an interview yesterday on F1TV in which I participated,” he wrote.
“I completely misunderstood his words and want to apologize for that. I know how important it is for Zak and the entire McLaren team to respect their drivers and treat them fairly and equally. McLaren had the fastest car today and was unlucky with the VSC. I am sure both Lando and Oscar will have another chance to fight for victory in Baku,” he concluded.
