Pierre Gasly does not expect a quiet weekend at Madring. For the Alpine driver, the new Formula 1 circuit has so many traps that a red flag seems to be just a matter of time during the Spanish GP.

“I will bet on the red flag. That is certain. In terms of driving, I must say that in the simulator it was very pleasant and very exciting. I managed to have a good reading and feel of practically all the walls in all the corners, so actually, I know what to do and what not to do,” said the Frenchman.
Gasly’s first impressions came precisely from the simulator, where he was able to better understand the layout and identify the difficult points. One of the factors will be the track evolution, as grip levels should change a lot as more rubber is laid down on the asphalt.
“I think it will be very challenging, especially in terms of evolution, probably a lot of track evolution, slightly exaggerated braking zones, which are not completely straight, twisty-type corners, very winding, many corners, many blind spots, banking, ups and downs, undulations throughout the course.”

The comparison with Monaco helps explain the Frenchman’s concern. Just like on the street circuit, a small mistake at Madring can quickly turn into a bigger problem: “I expect a very complicated and challenging track for us, which is good because you can always try to make a bit more difference in terms of driving. But again, it is a kind of track a bit like Monaco, where I think if you make a slight mistake, you can have a big consequence immediately. So, I will be at least worried in every braking zone and with the kind of speed you carry through the corners.”
“I must say it is exciting. At the same time, I think it will be a quite disturbing weekend because of how easy it will be to have an accident.”
