Nikola Tsolov continues gaining strength as one of Red Bull’s main prospects, but Racing Bulls denied that the Formula 2 leader is considered to replace Liam Lawson in Formula 1 in 2027. While former driver David Coulthard believes the Bulgarian’s name deserves attention, the team states there are no plans in that regard.

At 19 years old, Tsolov is experiencing a great phase in Formula 2. At Silverstone, he made history by becoming the first driver to win three consecutive races in the category, including victories in the Sprint and the main race of the weekend. The performance put him in the championship lead, with a 17-point advantage over Gabriele Minì, and brings him very close to the FIA Super License, as a place among the top three guarantees the 40 points needed to compete in Formula 1.
Coulthard suggested that the Red Bull academy driver could appear on the grid in 2027, even if there is no immediate space in the four seats controlled by the group. The next step in Tsolov’s development will be a test with cars from previous seasons (TPC), scheduled for the European autumn, according to Racing Bulls CEO Peter Bayer.

Despite speculation about a possible Lawson replacement, Bayer sought to cool the rumors. “They are just rumors,” he said. “Tsolov is doing a brilliant job and is a huge talent, naturally he is on our radar.”
