Damson Idris indicated that a sequel to “F1: The Movie” may be in the plans after the success of the production in theaters. The actor, who plays the young driver Joshua Pearce, stated that there are ongoing talks, although he cannot yet reveal details about the future of the franchise.

The film won over audiences and grossed more than US$ 630 million at the worldwide box office. To give authenticity to the production, filming took place during Formula 1 GP weekends, with unprecedented access to the paddock, while Idris and Brad Pitt underwent training to drive race cars and followed the physical preparation of the category’s drivers.
In a participation on the Beyond The Grid podcast, Idris highlighted that the main goal was always to represent Formula 1 and its fans well. “There are talks happening, but I can’t say much. The main goal is to make the sport and the fans proud, and I think the first movie achieved that,” he said.

“I know people who watched it 19 times. I think the brilliance of ‘F1: The Movie’ is that, for the first time in a long time, it was a movie you could take the whole family to watch. Grandparents, children, parents, boyfriend, girlfriend… We don’t see that often, and I think that’s why it was so successful,” he said.
Asked about the possibility of returning if a sequel is confirmed, Idris did not hide his enthusiasm. “Definitely, without thinking twice. Just for the experience of getting back in the cars and driving on the circuits again. I would have to be faster, it would be very embarrassing to hear that I got slower,” he joked. Then he added in a humorous tone: “This time I will follow the advice to take more espresso shots to gain a few seconds. No more banana vitamin with peanut butter, I’m going to lose even more weight.”
