Cadillac confidently continues developing Colton Herta for a future spot in Formula 1. According to TWG Motorsports CEO Dan Towriss, the American driver’s performance will be evaluated much more by the work done with the F1 team than by the results achieved in Formula 2.

The competitor left Indy at the end of 2025 to take on the role of test driver for the American team. Besides competing for Hitech in F2 to get to know the calendar circuits, he also participates in the team’s activities at the factory, works on the simulator, and also follows a training program in F1 cars. His first participation in a TL1 session took place at the Spanish GP, and he will return to the track in the TL1 of the Hungarian GP, as well as two other participations planned for 2026.
Although Herta occupies mid-field positions in Formula 2, Towriss stated that this is not the main parameter used by Cadillac. “For Colton, the goal has always been to learn, get to know the tracks and the tires, and that is certainly happening. We had some setbacks with the team and the results were not as good as we expected, but that was something predictable and also reflects Hitech’s moment in Formula 2,” he said.

“We hope he continues to show what he is capable of, but we are also achieving what we needed. He is learning what he needs to learn. Besides Formula 2, there is all the work done on the Formula 1 simulator, and he has already completed his first TL1 session doing exactly everything the team asked,” he highlighted.
Towriss believes the process will continue evolving throughout the season. “We will have another session in Hungary and will continue building the set of experiences necessary to demonstrate that he is ready for Formula 1,” he concluded.
