F1 announces launch of themed Monopoly board game

Formula 1 fans will get an alternative to pass the time on weekends without a race. The premier motorsport category announced this Wednesday (20) a partnership with the gaming giant Hasbro to launch a special themed edition of Monopoly, one of the most famous board games in the world.

The Monopoly Formula 1 Edition, which opens pre-orders on May 20 and is scheduled for release on July 15, invites players to race through the current F1 calendar and compete in what is called the GP Monopoly.

However, following the theme of the category, some changes were made such as, for example, drivers do not earn an amount when passing ‘Go’ [or the starting square of the game]. Instead, they choose their favorite team and ‘drive’ helmets on a track on the board, fighting for points for the championship.

“Monopoly is one of the most iconic and beloved board games in the world, so we are very excited to bring a touch of Formula 1 to a classic like this,” said Emily Prazer, F1 Commercial Director.

“This edition captures the excitement and competitiveness of the sport in a fun and accessible way, and we are confident that fans of all ages will love competing with their friends and family when they enter the grid and take part in the Monopoly Grand Prix,” she continued.

Billy Lagor, president of Hasbro’s toys and games division, stated that the project “feels authentic in both worlds. Formula 1 is one of the most iconic sports properties in the world, and we are excited to bring the adrenaline of race day, the roar of engines, the drama of the pits, and split-second strategy to a nighttime gaming experience.”

Formula 1 has teamed up with toy and games leader @Hasbro to launch a special F1‑themed edition of one of the world’s most iconic board games, Monopoly.
