Fernando Alonso stated that Aston Martin and Honda work as a single team to overcome the problems faced at the beginning of the 2026 Formula 1 season. According to the Spaniard, the Japanese manufacturer receives direct support from the team in the development of the power unit.

Aston Martin presented a comprehensive update package at the Hungarian GP, allowing the team to leave the back of the pack and show signs of progress. Alonso also avoided a Q1 elimination for the first time this year, after an initial phase marked by difficulties both in the AMR26 chassis and the Honda engine.
“We are a team, we work together. We know our weaknesses and try to help each other,” Alonso said. The two-time world champion explained that this collaboration has already occurred in both directions, with Honda initially seeking to compensate for some of the car’s limitations and Aston Martin now offering support in other areas.
“I think Honda tried to help with some weaknesses of the car at the start of the year. Now, with the chassis, we try to help Honda as much as possible, including in the consistency of power delivery from one lap to another,” he highlighted.
Alonso added that Aston Martin’s contribution also involves the department responsible for electronic systems. “I think there is also a lot of help from Aston Martin in this aspect, in the software area,” the driver explained.

Honda intends to introduce an updated version of its power unit at the next Dutch GP. Before that, the new engine will make its track debut during a filming day.
Despite the progress, Alonso acknowledged that the project is still far from the desired level. For him, strengthening the trust between the two structures will be decisive in the coming months. “There is still a long way to go, we understand that and are aware, but we hope this is the first step,” he assessed.
“Both factories are gaining confidence in the work they do. That will probably be more important than anything else over the next few months,” Alonso concluded.
