Before the Canadian GP, the Grove team confirmed the arrivals of Piers Thynne, former operations director at McLaren, Claire Simpson and Fred Judd, both from Mercedes, as well as Steve Booth, who worked at Alpine. The reinforcements come at an important time for Williams, which has scored only seven points in the first five rounds of the season.
According to the Anglo-Thai, the difficulties faced since the arrival of the new regulations exposed some weaknesses in the team’s structure. “We have talked about this before, but there were several aspects of the regulation change that left us a bit exposed from one year to the next,” he said.

“It’s great to see a very aggressive action plan from the team to ensure we don’t face similar problems in the future. I am very pleased with all the hires we have made,” he added.
One of Williams’ main limitations has been the speed in producing and introducing updates to the car, often lagging behind rivals in this aspect. For Albon, the experience of the new members can make a difference precisely in this area. “Maybe this is one of the biggest points where we have difficulties as a team. When you look at the number of updates that the top teams manage to bring to the track so consistently, it is exactly this kind of capability that we seek to achieve,” he concluded.
