Dino Beganovic secured pole position for the opening round of Formula 2. In the qualifying session held in the early hours of this Friday (6) at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, the Swede from the DAMS team recorded a best lap of 1min28s695, taking the top spot for Sunday’s race.

The front row will also feature Martinius Stenshorne, the Rodin driver who finished 0s216 behind Beganovic’s mark. Alexander Dunne, also from Rodin, secured third on the grid and will share the second row with Noel León, fourth with Campos Racing. The top five also included Nikola Tsolov, another Campos Racing driver and leader for most of the session.
Current Formula 3 champion Rafael Câmara finished his first Formula 2 qualifying with the sixth fastest time. The Invicta driver will be followed by Kush Maini of ART Grand Prix, who finished seventh. Oliver Goethe of MP Motorsport, Joshua Durksen of Invicta, and Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak of ART Grand Prix round out the top 10, with the Thai driver starting at the front for the Sprint.
In addition to Câmara, Brazil has another representative on the grid. Emmo Fittipaldi, with a car prepared by AIX Racing, secured 18th place and will start from the ninth row in both of the weekend’s races in the capital of the Australian state of Victoria.

The red flag had to be deployed after ten minutes of activity after Mari Boya hit the barrier after going off at Turn 10 in the Prema car. Later, with 21 minutes of the session gone, Gabriele Mini stopped his MP Motorsport car on track with problems, forcing another interruption.
The two F2 races in Australia will be held this Saturday (7). The Sprint starts at midnight, while the main race is scheduled for 21:25.
