Max Verstappen confirmed that he will continue in Formula 1 in 2027, ending some of the doubts about his continuity in the category. The Red Bull Racing driver, however, avoided guaranteeing that he will remain with the current team in the coming seasons.

The statement took place during an interview with the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, this weekend of the Canadian GP. When directly asked about his future, the four-time world champion was categorical in stating that he will continue competing in F1, barring a completely unexpected situation.
“Yes, definitely. Unless really crazy things happen, but I don’t expect that. I hope everyone keeps their word. But I can confirm that I will remain in Formula 1,” Verstappen said.
The Dutchman had already given signs of this decision during his press meeting on Thursday (21) in Montreal. On that occasion, he commented positively on the planned changes for the 2027 engines, although the adjustments are still surrounded by political and technical uncertainties within the category.
“This will improve the product, so I’m happier with that and that’s what I want to continue in Formula 1,” the Dutch driver said at that moment, without fully confirming his permanence in the category.

Despite the assurance that he will keep racing, Verstappen showed less conviction about continuing to be linked to Red Bull in the long term: “I’m not in a hurry. I would prefer to be linked to Red Bull Racing for the rest of my life, I’ve always said that. But this decision doesn’t need to be made today or tomorrow,” he added.
The four-time world champion explained that his future involves issues beyond a contract in Formula 1. According to him, other projects related to motorsport are also part of the talks with his current team: “There is much more involved than just the contract in Formula 1. I’m also talking about other projects. I’m discussing this with Red Bull and I’m very calm about all of this,” he concluded.
Verstappen also made it clear that he wants freedom to compete in other categories besides F1. The Dutchman intends to continue participating in races like the 24 Hours of Nurburgring and is considering competing in the 24 Hours of Daytona in the future. Meanwhile, teams like Mercedes and McLaren are closely monitoring the driver’s situation, especially due to the possibility that he seeks an environment that allows this flexibility outside of Formula 1.
