Martin Brundle spoke about Lewis Hamilton’s contractual situation with Ferrari in Formula 1 and stated that the seven-time world champion has a driver option clause for the 2028 season.

The current agreement of the seven-time world champion ends at the end of 2027. But there is this favorable clause for the competitor that was not previously known. His first year with the Maranello team was complicated and, with that, numerous names in the paddock point to an imminent retirement.
But the scenario is changing in 2026 already achieving a podium with Ferrari in China and with a more satisfied attitude compared to last year. “He is certainly enjoying these cars much more than the ground effect cars we had in the last four seasons,” Brundle told Sky Sports F1.
“So he seems more comfortable, seems happier. Just looking at him, you can tell that Lewis has regained that spark we hadn’t seen for a year or two. But, on the other side of the garage, you have Charles Leclerc in great form,” he continued.

“From what I understand, Lewis also has a unilateral option in his favor for 2028, if he wants to continue at Ferrari. So I think what he meant is… Because there were some people saying he should retire, that he’s done — and that’s what he responded to,” he said.
“And, basically… Lewis does exactly that, doesn’t he? He manages to balance very well all the extracurricular activities with the life of a Formula 1 driver. He loves fashion, his charity foundation, and everything else. So Lewis is in a great moment and won’t give this up unless he really has to,” he concluded.
