Fernando Alonso issued a direct warning after the Miami Formula 1 GP. The Spaniard pointed out a significant problem in the Aston Martin that needs to be resolved before the next stage in Canada.

Despite dismissing concerns about the Honda power unit of the AMR26, the two-time world champion highlighted recurring difficulties with the gearbox throughout the weekend. The issue gains even more weight considering the characteristics of the Canadian circuit, known for its heavy braking zones.
“No problems, honestly, it was more the gearbox throughout the weekend than the engine, so I don’t know if it’s electronics or something like that. It was very strange on downshifts and upshifts, so it wasn’t very much under control,” Alonso said.

The Spaniard said this will be the team’s number one priority in the coming weeks. According to him, the expectation is to improve the car’s drivability, although there is no forecast for immediate performance gain: “This is the number one fix for Canada. With all those heavy braking zones, we need to improve the gearbox behavior. I think we will take a step in this driving aspect. In performance, no. So we need to stay united with the team,” he added.
At the Miami GP, Alonso started 17th and finished 15th, his best result of the season so far. In a tough race at the back of the grid, the experienced driver still found ways to stay motivated, engaging in an intense battle with Sergio Perez and crossing the finish line ahead of his teammate, Lance Stroll, and the two Cadillac cars, Perez and Valtteri Bottas.
