Lewis Hamilton stated that he had an open conversation with Charles Leclerc after the incident at the Formula 1 Italian GP, but Ferrari has not yet established clear rules to avoid similar situations. The Briton said that the relationship with his teammate remains positive.

At the start in Monza, Leclerc pushed Hamilton off at turn 2, causing the Ferrari driver to go through the runoff area and lose several positions. After the episode, Hamilton advocated for the creation of conduct rules between the two drivers but revealed that this matter has not yet been addressed internally.
Speaking to the press this Thursday in Madrid, Hamilton said he spoke directly with Leclerc during the week: “We sat face to face, just the two of us, and talked about it. We were open and honest, resolved the issue, and can move forward,” he said.
The seven-time world champion also highlighted the evolution of communication within the team since his arrival. According to Hamilton, he and Leclerc have built a relationship over time and know that new moments of tension may arise, especially because the two are close in performance and share the same goal of winning and helping Ferrari.

Despite the conversation being considered positive, the definition of racing rules was postponed: “That was not discussed. Now I’m just trying to focus on having a better weekend. I’m sure at some point we will discuss how we can improve, but we haven’t had much time since the last race. We can’t change things in two days,” Hamilton concluded.
The British driver also acknowledged the difficulty of his situation in the 2026 championship. Although there is still a mathematical possibility of the title, Hamilton stated that the gap to the lead is the largest he has seen in a long time and pointed to Mercedes as the leader, highlighting the team’s performance. For him, the focus at this moment should be to make the most of each weekend as best as possible.
