Aston Martin’s performance over the weekend in Miami showed progress compared to Cadillac, which had been struggling at the start of the season with vibrations and lack of performance, causing it to fall to 10th place in the Formula 1 hierarchy.

With no new updates — as Honda believes it has resolved the vibrations with countermeasures — Aston took a step forward. In the sprint, Fernando Alonso finished ahead of Sergio Perez, and, for the first time over the weekend, Aston cars outperformed Cadillac’s in the qualifying for the GP, with Alonso finishing Sunday in 15th after a direct battle with Perez.
After the sessions, Perez highlighted the team’s need to react in the face of rivals’ growth. “We had fun with them, especially fighting with Fernando,” Perez told the press. “It’s always something great, because he is very aggressive, but very fair.”

“I think we are going in the right direction, but as soon as tire degradation kicks in, we might be in the midfield pack, but they can really increase the pace. We are in a hurry to find performance, because we know Aston will improve, and we don’t want to be left behind.”
“It’s a great motivation, but it’s not about them. It’s about us improving ourselves, weekend after weekend, in all areas. The pit stop [in the race] was incredible, it was a very good job by the team, which shows we can do good things, so we need to be like this in many different departments in the coming weekends,” concluded the Mexican.
