The TCR South America and TCR Brasil organization opted to cancel Race 1 this Saturday (28), after a heavy accident at the start of the race this afternoon in Cascavel (PR). The choice was made to ensure the safety of the drivers, as some sections of the guardrail and the pitlane structure of the Zilmar Beux Autodrome were damaged. According to information, the race should be held on Sunday morning.

At the moment of the start, pole position Nelson Piquet Jr. had problems and stopped on track. With the traditional confusion of the start, an accident involving several drivers occurred: Bruno Massa’s car hit Piquet’s. Then, Guilherme Reischl tried to swerve and ended up being launched towards the protection barriers. Adrian Chiriano also had part of his car damaged.
The red flag was immediately triggered by the race direction and all drivers got out of their cars conscious and safe. Reischl was taken to the medical center complaining of pain. The accident ended up significantly damaging the guardrail and even tore off a gate at the pitlane entrance.

Initially, the race was rescheduled for 9h00 this Sunday. The second race is scheduled for 14h10 and will be broadcast on the category’s official YouTube channel and other options, such as TV Gazeta.
