The Madring finished its first Formula 1 race on Sunday (13) with a record that no one wanted to see. Only four overtakes were completed at the Spanish Grand Prix, the lowest number among the 14 rounds held in the 2026 season.
The number from Madrid draws even more attention when compared to Monaco. Even being a more conventional circuit, the Madring had six fewer overtakes than the Monaco track, which recorded ten and usually appears among the circuits with fewer position battles.
The difference to the tracks that provided the most overtakes in 2026 was huge. China leads the data from the F1 Race Review, with 101 maneuvers, followed by Miami, with 88, and Japan, with 85. Italy appears next, with 78, while Canada had 72. Belgium and Australia recorded 59 and 58, respectively.
Next, Austria finished with 51 overtakes, just one more than Spain’s 50. Great Britain had 49, while the Netherlands appears with 48, although the exact total for the round is not yet known. Hungary closed the list with 47.

Until the arrival of Madrid, the season had an average of no less than 61 overtakes per race. The number had been showing that the new regulations had helped increase the action on track.
Several drivers voiced dissatisfaction with the new track. Lando Norris, the current world champion, even suggested that corners be removed from the layout, while Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto joked that he “got sleepy” during the race.
