The Dutchman has been one of the main critics of the new F1 regulations. From the first moment, he has been hitting out at the new set, saying they look like Formula E on steroids, and after the Australian GP, he complained about the changes again.
In parallel, he is investing in his career in GT cars. In fact, in 2026, he will compete in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring with his team Verstappen Racing aboard a Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3.

Therefore, when asked by GPblog if GT3 cars are more fun to drive than Formula 1 cars, he said that “this is 100% the case now”. And following the response after other questions, “I didn’t choose these rules. If it were up to me, we would have completely different cars”.

“That’s why I sometimes also find GT3 racing more fun. It’s more normal and less political in that aspect. Generally, it’s more about pure racing. The cars might be slower, but that doesn’t matter much. It’s fine,” he added.
“It’s simply different. Now I’m having an opportunity that I can take advantage of, and I like that in a season where you can’t have much fun,” he concluded.
