Camilo Trappa’s debut in TCR South America ended with a victory and a standout performance at the 2026 season opener, held at the Circuito dos Cristais in Curvelo (MG). The Argentine driver won Race 2 of the weekend after an intense battle marked by several restarts and direct fights for the lead.

Trappa secured the triumph behind the wheel of a Hyundai Elantra N TCR, demonstrating consistent pace and good management. Throughout the race, the Argentine had to defend his position at different moments to ensure the result. In the early laps, rookie Gabriel Moura applied pressure with an Audi RS3 LMS Gen 2. Later, Trappa had to resist attacks from Juan Ángel Rosso and, in the final laps, faced pressure from former Formula 1 driver Nelson Piquet Jr.
At the end of the race, Brazilian Piquet Jr. finished second, followed by Rosso. The top 10 also included Celso Neto, Moura, Raphael Reis, Joaquín Cafaro, Néstor Girolami, Gianfratti, and Tiago Pernía. In addition to the victory in the main race, Trappa was also the standout in the TCR South America Junior Cup, winning both division races over the weekend. In the first race, he finished ahead of Argentine Nicolás Fuca, while in the second, Moura was the runner-up.

After the victory in Race 2, Trappa explained the strategy adopted during the race: “The morning race was a bit more complicated because I started a bit further back, but in this one I knew it would be long, with many safety cars, and I dedicated myself to taking care of the tires in the twistier section to have something left for the end. In the last five laps I gave it my all and was able to measure myself against Piquet to see the car’s potential,” he declared.
