Schotten conquers first victory in TCR South America in Cuiabá

Erick Schotten achieved his first victory in the TCR South America and TCR Brazil on the afternoon of this Saturday (20). The driver led Race 2 at the Autódromo Internacional de Mato Grosso, in Cuiabá, almost from start to finish and managed a restart after the safety car came out to confirm the win. Juan Ángel Rosso and Raphael Reis completed the podium of the race, which also confirmed Adrián Chiriano’s title in the Trophy class of TCR Brazil.

Schotten started well in front, with Juan Ángel Rosso holding second. The only incident at the start happened with Camilo Trappa, who went off the track. Halfway through the lap, Tiago Pernía and Pedro Cardoso ended up involved in a touch. Both lost several positions.

Soon after, Fabian Yannantuoni had problems and Raphael Reis moved up to fourth place. Pedro Cardoso retired from the race after stopping on the track.

Meanwhile, Schotten took advantage of the intense battles to open a lead in front. He started the fourth lap with a three-second advantage over Rosso.

With 15 minutes left in the race, the battle between Nelson Piquet Jr. and Néstor Girolami for fifth place heated up. Girolami’s car slowed down in the middle of the fight, allowing Piquet to take the position.

The safety car was deployed with just over 10 minutes remaining on the clock.

At the restart, Schotten kept his position. Juan Manuel Casella went off the track, while Raphael Reis and Leonel Pernía staged a good battle for third place and the lead in the TCR Brazil championship, with the Brazilian coming out on top.

Schotten took the checkered flag for his first victory in TCR South America and TCR Brazil. Rosso and Reis completed the podium in Cuiabá. Leonel Pernía finished fourth, followed by Piquet Jr. Enzo Giafratti was sixth, followed by Joaquín Cafaro and Nicolas Fuca. Bruno Massa was ninth, while Gabryel Romano finished in the top 10.
