Rafael Câmara continues building his path towards Formula 1. After a successful career in karting, the Brazilian accumulated wins in Formula 4, won the titles in Formula Regional and Formula 3, and currently holds third place in the Formula 2 championship after nine rounds of the season.

In an interview with Sky Sports F1, the 21-year-old driver recalled his first contacts with the highest category of motorsport, revealed that Fernando Alonso was his childhood idol, and stated that he hopes to follow in Oliver Bearman’s footsteps as a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy.
“When you are a child, you don’t know how big this will become or what will happen. I always liked watching Formula 1 and, of course, that was a dream every child had: to get there. I remember back then I was rooting for Alonso at Ferrari. I also recall watching the last race of 2012, in Interlagos, when Alonso and Sebastian Vettel were fighting for the championship,” he said.

“It’s definitely very exciting. It’s also very cool to see Ollie, who came from the Academy, getting the opportunity to reach Formula 1. That gives me motivation to keep working, keep improving, and, who knows, maybe one day also get an opportunity,” he concluded.
