The telemetry technology from IturanMob is the basis of an unprecedented program that allows Porsche Cup Brasil C6 Bank to measure, for the first time, the carbon footprint of the cars on the grid using real data collected during practice sessions, qualifying, and races.

The initiative represents a new step in applying connected mobility to generating environmental intelligence by expanding the use of telemetry to measure emissions based on real data, replacing estimated models.

The project started during the Portugal stages of Porsche Cup Brasil C6 Bank, when IturanMob activated, on the same IoT device that already performs vehicle telemetry, its patented algorithm for measuring emissions. The collected data will be processed according to the methodology developed by CEiiA (Center for Engineering and Product Development), a Portuguese organization specialized in engineering, mobility, and sustainability, with the expectation that the first validated results will be available still this season.
More than an application aimed at motorsport, the initiative demonstrates a new frontier for telemetry. Traditionally used for connectivity, safety, and vehicle management, the technology now transforms operational data into environmental intelligence, creating a reliable basis to support decarbonization strategies in different mobility segments.

Carbon measured, not estimated
Instead of using average emission factors or models based on estimates, the methodology uses data actually generated by vehicles during practice, qualifying, and races. The information captured by IturanMob’s IoT infrastructure is transformed into environmental indicators capable of accurately measuring the carbon footprint of each car in the competition.
By simultaneously monitoring the cars on the grid, the initiative creates an environmental database based on real measurements for the category, increasing transparency and traceability of the information produced and establishing a new benchmark for decarbonization projects based on real data.
From the street to the track
The technology applied to the program was born outside motorsport. Before reaching Porsche Cup Brasil C6 Bank, IturanMob’s telemetry infrastructure had already been used in connected mobility projects developed in partnership with CEiiA.
Among them is BEN, an electric vehicle equipped with IturanMob’s IoT and AYR® technology, capable of quantifying, in real time, the CO₂ emissions avoided during its operation. The experience demonstrated that it is possible to transform mobility data into verifiable environmental indicators. Now, this same concept arrives on the tracks to measure the carbon footprint of Porsche Cup Brasil C6 Bank.
The same technological infrastructure used to measure the competition’s emissions also allows quantifying emissions avoided by electric vehicles monitored with Ituran’s solutions, connecting motorsport and electric mobility through the same database and methodological rigor.

How it works
The program was structured in three stages.
In the first, IturanMob’s IoT devices capture, transmit, and consolidate real consumption data from vehicles throughout the track schedule.
In the second, CEiiA transforms this information into a carbon footprint measured through the AYR® platform, developed for carbon accounting based on real data.
Finally, the entire process undergoes verification by an independent third party, in accordance with international carbon accounting standards. The separation between data generation, quantification, and validation ensures transparency, traceability, and credibility of the information produced.
According to the program model, the partner company will finance a climate contribution proportional to the carbon footprint measured throughout the races, using credits from avoided emissions generated by the vehicles on the track that carry IturanMob technology.
A laboratory for new connected mobility applications
Porsche Cup Brasil C6 Bank was chosen for the initiative’s implementation because it offers a highly demanding technical environment capable of validating the technology under extreme operating conditions.
The initiative is part of a broader IturanMob strategy to expand telemetry applications in generating environmental intelligence. Alongside the project developed for Porsche Cup Brasil C6 Bank, the company is also developing solutions aimed at passenger vehicles, corporate fleets, and logistics operations. The motorsport experience will contribute to refining the methodology and pave the way for its future expansion to other connected mobility segments.
