Mercedes arrives at the Hungarian GP, which takes place between July 24 and 26, determined to extract even better performance from George Russell and Kimi Antonelli. Before the last Formula 1 race before the summer break, team principal Toto Wolff stated that the main objective is to avoid the errors that cost points in recent races.

“We have shown in all races so far that the performance is there. However, we have not converted that potential into sufficient results,” said Wolff. “We have lost points due to self-inflicted problems, and we know we need to improve. The team is working at full throttle to understand the problems, correct them, and ensure we are giving both drivers the necessary tools to maximize every weekend.”
“Hungary presents a different challenge from the circuits we have recently raced on. Silverstone and Spa are tracks with more energy limitation; Budapest is much richer in energy, which changes some of the demands on the car and how you approach the weekend.”
“As always, the field is competitive, and small details will make the difference. Our goal is straightforward: to execute a clean and reliable weekend and score the points the car is capable of achieving before we enter the summer break.”

Since the Canadian GP, Mercedes has had both cars in the points zone in only one race, in Austria. Kimi Antonelli and George Russell suffered from reliability issues, penalties, and, in Russell’s case, straight-line speed difficulties at the Belgian GP.
Antonelli leads the drivers’ championship with a 45-point advantage over Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton, while Russell is 50 points behind his teammate. In the Constructors’ Championship, Mercedes has won eight of the ten races contested but has only a 73-point lead over Ferrari.
