In Zandvoort, Lewis Hamilton did not hide his frustration at ‘losing time’, as he himself said, behind teammate Charles Leclerc. Asking him to make way, he got stuck behind the Monegasque and this harmed a chance to fight for the title – in the end, he finished fourth.
Therefore, the journalist and former F1 manager pointed out that the head of the Maranello team should have commanded the duo more. “If you want to hire a Lewis Hamilton to replace a Carlos Sainz, you know there will be conflicts and the situation we saw in Zandvoort is practically inevitable; you need someone capable of making decisions, and that person has to be someone both drivers respect and obey immediately,” he explained.

“It can’t be one of the race engineers. Not even a chief engineer responsible for both cars. It has to be someone at the top of the hierarchy who says: ‘Alright, this is what we’re going to do, period,’ and that’s it, someone who really commands the team,” he continued.
“They don’t have that, and that’s one of the reasons why I said it would be a mess when they put Lewis alongside Charles. For the same reason it would be a mess to put Charles alongside Max, for example,” he concluded.
