F1: Williams unveils special paint inspired by 1981 for Spanish GP

Williams will come with a special livery to mark Formula 1’s return to Madrid with this weekend’s Spanish GP. The livery is inspired by the colors of the 1981 championship season, when they raced with the FW07C.

That year was the last time the category visited the Spanish capital. The design, which will adorn the cars of the home driver Carlos Sainz and Alexander Albon, features white, green, and navy blue colors, similar to the 1981 livery driven by Alan Jones and Carlos Reutmann at the Jarama Circuit.

Williams explained that the livery shows how they are using knowledge, methods, and lessons from the past to inspire the fight for the front of the pack. “From the engineers who developed the FW07C to the team members preparing the FW48, the same spirit of innovation, precision, and teamwork continues to shape Williams,” they stated.

The unique design was unveiled by the British team during an appearance at the Fan Zone with Sainz at Plaza de Callao in Madrid, this Tuesday (8th). “Our mission to return to the front of the grid is based on, inspired by, and guided by everything we have done before,” said James Vowles.

“I am immensely proud to celebrate this through Atlassian’s [title sponsor] special livery, connecting the team we were at Jarama to the team we are becoming today, thanks to focused collaboration, enhanced technological innovation, and genuine creativity. The car looks fantastic, and I can’t wait to see it racing in Madrid,” he continued.
