Max Verstappen showed improvement in his health condition before this Sunday’s Formula 1 Dutch GP. The Red Bull driver revealed during the weekend that he is experiencing flu-like symptoms but stated he is feeling better ahead of the race in Zandvoort.

The Dutchman had confirmed the issue after Saturday’s qualifying, in which he finished only in seventh position. It was his worst qualifying result in front of the home crowd in Zandvoort, precisely on the weekend marking the last scheduled F1 visit to the circuit, as the organizers chose not to renew the contract with the category.
Before the race, Verstappen explained to Viaplay that there was progress overnight. “I’m feeling a little better today, so that’s always positive,” said the four-time world champion.
Asked about his physical condition, the 28-year-old driver added that some symptoms remain. “Physically, yes. My nose… I still have a bit of a cough, but if you’re already feeling a little better physically, obviously it’s better. Especially here on this track,” he explained.

Despite the condition, Verstappen had already stated after qualifying that the illness was not affecting his performance behind the wheel. Thus, the Dutchman starts from seventh position to try to advance in his home race, on a weekend of strong support from the stands.
The race will also be Verstappen’s first since signing his contract extension with Red Bull. Under the new agreement, the four-time world champion will remain with the team at least until the end of the 2030 season.
