Fred Vasseur, Ferrari team principal, reinforced his position against the growing requests for changes to the start procedure for the new generation of Formula 1 cars.

After the Chinese GP, Vasseur stated that he had already warned the FIA about the difficulties the start procedure could bring: “I raised my hand about the start procedure to say: ‘Guys, it’s going to be difficult’,” he stated. According to him, the governing body’s response was clear: teams must design their cars to fit the rules, and not expect the rules to change to favor their cars.
Vasseur also highlighted that recent changes, such as the five-second sequence before the lights, did not help, but that Ferrari maintained its focus on developing the car within the current regulations: “The change with the five-second sequence didn’t help us at all, but at some point, enough with the adjustments,” he added.

Asked about the possibility of revisiting the topic in light of demands from other teams, Vasseur admitted that the discussion is not yet completely closed. He highlighted that, in Ferrari’s view, many of the requests for change are unnecessary, as the SF-26 has repeatedly demonstrated great performance at starts.
