Mercedes was the one who started dominating the championship with eight wins in the first ten races of the calendar. However, in Hungary and the Netherlands, the competitor started from pole position and secured both victories, now rising to fourth place in the Drivers’ World Championship and being 83 behind the leader Kimi Antonelli.
Analyzing the scenario, the McLaren boss sees Norris’s level growing with each F1 race in 2026. “I think he is driving at the level of a world champion and, as I always say to Lando, what I like most about his journey in Formula 1 is that he keeps improving,” he said.

“And I think that, especially after the start of the 2025 season, something clicked, which is not just a click, but a way of working with Lando, for Lando, and that we are also adopting on Oscar [Piastri]’s side now, in particular,” he continued.
“And I think this approach has led Lando to continuous improvements. So it’s almost like I see Lando getting stronger and stronger race after race. Because I think this weekend was not even close to a weekend where we could fight for the win as certain, especially after seeing the performance in the sprint,” he added.
